Fifteen People Ask for John’s Gospel - Lincoln Evangelism
My morning started off slower, as the injury I’ve been carrying for a few months 'burst'. This caused me to arrive at the Living Waters Europe Ambassadors’ Academy later than planned, and it raised serious doubts about whether I could conduct the open-air outreach at lunchtime. Thankfully, through the prayers of His people, God’s grace enabled me to preach and lead the team onto the streets.
As the ancient Lincoln Cathedral overshadowed us, we set up and began to share the good news. Many from the conference came out, and it seems they were encouraged and equipped to share the gospel.
I began the preaching by speaking on the topic “Why Christianity?” A good-sized crowd formed, with several university students stopping to listen. After the preaching, five students took copies of John’s Gospel.
I was able to speak with a group of students afterwards; they were polite and asked very good questions. Some wondered about the existence of God, while others wanted to know why there is death and suffering. We were able to answer their questions and point them to Jesus.
Tim preached next; as he did yesterday, he used the Good Person Test to engage the people. A crowd soon gathered, and a few male university students stepped forward to take the test. There was good interaction, and people enjoyed the engagement. One man who listened commended both Tim and me, saying he had heard other preachers who just shout at people, whereas we engage and answer questions. At the end of the open-air outreach, several students spoke with Tim, while an older lady took a John’s Gospel.
An older man stopped at the board to look at our literature. I tried to engage him in conversation, but he told me he had his own religious beliefs that would be far too complicated to explain. Since he didn’t want to talk, I encouraged him to take a few of our straightforward booklets. The man took a copy of 'Ultimate Questions' and said he’d read it.
As the lunchtime outreach drew to a close, we headed back to the conference. Before packing up, I did a quick count of the John’s Gospels that had been taken by people wanting to find out more about Jesus. Over the course of the lunchtime event, fifteen people took copies of the Scriptures. This came about through preaching and one-to-one conversations. It is amazing what the Lord did! Perhaps you could consider organising a regular lunchtime outreach in your area – I’m sure the Lord will use you.
Please pray for all those who heard the good news.
