“There is no hope for me…” - Lincoln Evangelism

After a morning of excellent evangelism training from Living Waters Europe, we headed down to the city centre of Lincoln for a lunchtime open-air outreach. A good number of people from the conference joined us on the streets, and we pray they were encouraged and equipped.

I began the preaching by speaking on “Lessons from the Boomerang.” Almost as soon as I started, a young man called out and began to engage. We had a friendly back-and-forth, and he soon admitted he wasn’t right with God. He listened to the good news and then took a copy of John’s Gospel. A couple of team members chatted further with him afterwards.

An older lady also listened and spoke with me when I finished. She told me she was 87 years old and thought I was wasting my time preaching, as the only way to make the nation Christian is to expel all false religions and ban multiculturalism. The lady then declared that people needed to get back to the Church of England. I stressed to her that salvation isn’t by works, efforts, or religion; rather, it is through Jesus alone. She took a tract and promised to read it.

Next to preach was Tim, who used the Good Person Test to engage the crowd. A young couple stepped forward and happily took the test. While Tim was preaching, I spotted a young man listening. He looked sad and then started to move away.

I went after him and offered him a tract. As he took it, I asked, “What do you think about the preaching?” The man sadly said, “I’m too bad. There is no hope for me.” Together, we went through the Law to understand sin, and when the man saw his need for the Saviour, I was able to share the good news. He listened as he heard about Jesus dying and rising again. Then, when I urged him to repent and believe, I asked, “What is stopping you from repenting and trusting in Jesus right now?” The man replied, “Nothing, but I want to do my own thing.” He was honest but playing a dangerous game. I urged him to trust in Jesus and not wait too long. He took a Gospel of John, shook my hand, and then left.

The final open-air was from Andy, who spoke on “How Does God Speak?” In this message, he explained the different ways God communicates His message to humanity. While Andy preached, many team members were busy sharing the gospel. Tim later told me he shared the gospel with a lady in a mobility scooter, who, upon hearing about Christ, professed faith in Him.

It was a good first day of outreach in Lincoln. Please pray for all those who heard the good news.
