Rain Interrupts the Preaching, but doesn’t stop the Gospel – Salisbury Evangelism
The clouds were low and grey as six of us gathered in Salisbury; after a quick check of our weather apps, we decided it would be best if the outreach proceeded, so we set up and began to share the good news of Jesus.
Paul preached first, using the topic of the Titanic to communicate the gospel. As he preached, he asked, “Are people lost or saved?” It was good to see people pause to listen and read what he had placed on the board. While Paul preached, another team member manned the Free Bible table. There was a steady flow of people going to the table to browse the literature or to chat.
When it was my turn to preach, I decided to speak on ‘What’s in a Name?’ In this message, I look at the name ‘Immanuel’ and ‘Jesus’ and use those names to explain who Christ is and what He has done. A few people paused to listen, but then the rain began to tumble down. I quickly finished my message while the team scrambled to cover the literature table so our items wouldn’t be destroyed.
Even though the rain interrupted the preaching, the outreach continued. People were still taking tracts, and conversations took place. As soon as the rain stopped, Paul preached again. It was around this time that a young man stopped at the table to chat with a team member. He said he’s been struggling with what to believe, so he wanted to read the Bible himself. We gave him a copy of the Scripture, and the team member explained the gospel to him. Another young man stopped at the table, who was clearly seeking the Saviour. He took literature and listened to the good news.
Right at the end of the outreach, a lady stopped to chat with Liz. She said that she had recently moved into the area, so she wanted to find a church to attend. Paul pointed her to an evangelical congregation and shared the gospel with her.
Looking back over the outreach, I can see that the Lord was at work. People engaged the gospel, listened, and took material. Please pray that the seed would have fallen upon good soil.
