Five Preachers, One Gospel! – Reading Evangelism
We had a wonderfully busy day in Reading. With ten of us sharing the gospel, many people heard the good news about Jesus. When we arrived the weather looked threatening, but soon things cleared up (though it was windy). As usual, the free Bible table was drawing people in for discussions, and the open-air board drew attention to the preaching.
Throughout the outreach, five of us preached the good news. It is always encouraging to have so many different preachers, as all of us preach the gospel, but each of us presented it in a way that is unique to us. Having so many preachers meant we could reach more people. Someone who may listen to me, may not listen to another preacher, and vice versa.
Trevor commenced the preaching by exhorting those in Reading to consider seriously the message of Jesus. As he preached, a few people paused to listen. Also, during his sermon, I noticed that many of the team members were engaged in one-to-one gospel conversations. The day was off to a great start!
I was the next preacher. My message was on ‘The Way to Heaven.’ As I preached, the Lord was pleased to bring a few people in to listen. At the end of the message, two men took copies of John’s Gospel.
Next to preach was Fergus. Coming from a United Beach Missions background, he did a very good presentation on ‘How to Remove the Blot.’ After Fergus, Bill preached the gospel very clearly. This Greek brother is only three years old in the Faith, but he is passionate about Jesus. At the end of his message, two people took copies of the Gospel of John.
Each preacher had a different style, but there was one gospel. This was further shown when Rich used his testimony to preach about the love and graciousness of God. As he preached, an Irish Catholic listened, and then at the end of the message, he took literature and John’s Gospel.
As we packed up at the end of the outreach, I was amazed at all that God had done. Many gospel conversations had taken place, and many tracts were given away. The Bible table also had much literature taken from it. God was gracious to Reading. Please pray for all those we encountered.
