International Evangelism in the Rain – Southampton Outreach

“For he causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.” (Matthew 5:45)

The Lord in His kindness sent rain upon Southampton today. It was wet and windy from the start of the outreach. It was so wet that the drive home was a bit hazardous as roads were covered in water. Yet, thankfully, in the city centre of Southampton, there is an undercover area that allows us to evangelise even as the rain falls.

Today, we were joined by Tim and Gill from Derbyshire, who are visiting family. It was a joy to have them with us on the outreach.

Due to the weather, we couldn’t open-air preach; however, we could set up the Free Bible table and engage in tract distribution and one-to-one witnessing. The biggest challenge (after the rain) was the charity hawkers. They would approach people for money, which made it harder for us to get into conversations and also scared people away from the Bible table. Yet, despite that, we still spoke to people about Jesus.

Something that was encouraging today was that we evangelised the nations without leaving Southampton. I spoke to a man from Australia. Tim shared with two Frenchmen. Liz and I shared with a man from Afghanistan, who spoke Farsi, but very little English; we gave him a copy of John’s Gospel and Ultimate Questions in his own language. Team members also chatted with people from Romania, Ireland, and England.

We also encouraged several Christians who were excited to see the gospel being shared on the streets. May the Lord raise up more labourers!

Despite the heavy rain, we rejoice that the Lord allowed His Word to spread. Please pray for all those we encountered.
