London Outreach – Day 2 (Leicester Square)

After our team’s devotion and worship time, we headed into the centre of London for a day of sharing the good news. Leicester Square was busy, but when we first arrived there were no buskers near us – that changed later!

Throughout the outreach, we had multiple preachers, each with their own style and method, but all sharing the same message of God’s love.

When it came time for me to preach, I asked the question, “Are You Good Enough to Go to Heaven?” Before commencing, I prayed that the Holy Spirit would use this message to bring about good gospel conversations afterward, and He answered that prayer!

As I preached, a few people paused to listen before hurrying on their way. A group of female students began to engage and as I drew them into the message, they sadly were distracted away. There was one young man who listened to the whole message. When I finished speaking, I went to chat with him. He told me he was from Canada and had recently converted to Roman Catholicism, even though his background was Pentecostal and Baptist. We had a nice chat about the nature of authority, Sola Scriptura, and Sola Fide. Even though we had very different understandings, it was a friendly discussion. He took a tract designed for Roman Catholics and my contact details. He said he would send me an email when he got back home.

It appeared my prayer for gospel conversations had been answered, but the Holy Spirit hadn’t finished working. Andy offered a tract to a young couple who were passing by. They told him they had walked by while I was preaching but couldn’t stop. They did, however, want to take the ‘good person test.’ Andy called me over so I could talk with them. Both were in London from France, though the man was originally from the USA. The lady told me she was a Muslim, so she disagreed with the Christian message. We chatted about the gospel, and then I answered her questions about the Trinity and the death of Jesus. After speaking to her for a while, I brought Natalie over to talk to her further, so I could talk with the man.

The man told me he was a Christian and had been trying to talk to his friend about Jesus. He had sown the seeds, and now we were watering them. He also told me he is a professional basketball player (which I’ve confirmed!). It was nice to chat with him and help him grow in his understanding of the gospel. He took my contact details and said he’d email me with any questions which may arise.

It was an encouraging day in Leicester Square. I look forward to seeing what the Lord does tomorrow. Please pray for all those who heard the good news.
