Wet, Windy, Witnessing – Southampton Evangelism
It was going to rain! The forecast left no doubt that today would be wet and windy, but the question we had to answer was, “Should the outreach go ahead, or should it be cancelled?” After a couple of discussions and prayer, we decided to go out, even though we knew we’d come home sopping wet. Looking back, I am thankful we went out, as the Lord showed Himself as mighty – numerous excellent encounters took place, and many people heard the good news.
We didn’t set up the literature table due to the rain, but we did use the open-air board. Richard commenced the preaching by speaking on “The Power of Words.” Showing that our words will bring about judgement, he pointed to the One who was judged on behalf of sinners. A young mother with her child stood in the rain listening, then afterwards took a Gospel of John and a tract from Jeremy. This young mother would return and stay with us for most of the outreach.
I preached next, speaking on “The Separation.” In this message, I explained that God created us, but by our sin, we’ve chosen to separate ourselves from Him. As I preached, I noticed a couple of people listening, including the young mother. She stood in the rain listening and then spoke with Richard. At the end of the message, one man took a Gospel of John, and we were able to point him to a church near where he lives.
The young mother was having a deep and long chat with Richard. I was called over to join them, as the lady was Greek but lives in the UK. I was able to give her a link to a gospel video in Greek and then connect her with a local church. The young mother said she’d be interested in attending church, so I’ve arranged for a worker from the church to call her.
Mike preached next; he spoke on “Where Are They Now?” A couple of young men engaged him in conversation, and they had a good gospel chat. The next to preach was Ben, who challenged people with the question: “What is Truth?”
While this was happening, Jeremy was engaged in conversation with a large group of young men. After hearing the good news, six of them received copies of John’s Gospel. Once the conversation was over, Jeremy then preached the final message of the day, this time from John 3:16.
If I’m honest, I didn’t expect much to happen today due to the weather, but the Lord was at work! Please pray for all those who heard the good news.
