A Sunny then Grey Day in Salisbury
I’m not sure if I’ll ever get used to British weather. One minute it was sunny and mild, so I took my coat off after preaching; the next, it was grey, cold, and windy. But on the streets, we need to be ready for anything. In all weathers, the gospel needs to spread to those who are without Christ. In Salisbury today, we had a good opportunity to make much of Jesus, even if the weather kept changing. Throughout the outreach, numerous people heard the good news, and many took tracts.
It was particularly encouraging to have a large team. Pastor Mark from Christ Church Salisbury brought out several members of his congregation to join us; we also had our regular team. At times, I thought there were more Christians witnessing than there were lost people to witness to!
The preaching commenced when I spoke on “God and Humanity.” In this message, I sought to show God as the Creator of all people, but then explained how our sin has built a wall of separation between us and God. As I explained the gospel, a few people listened. One man didn’t like my preaching, so he came up next to me, asking, “Will Heaven be quiet?” I knew he was implying that I should shut up, so I answered, “Heaven will be loud, as it is filled with the praise of the King you don’t like!” The man walked away. All I can pray is that little seed will be used by the Holy Spirit to convict him.
Next to preach was Paul, who spoke on “Four Big Problems.” As he preached, Paul dealt with the problems of the past, present, future, and judgement. A workman sat down next to Paul to listen while eating his lunch. He is a new Christian and seemed encouraged by the ministry.
After handing out tracts for a little while, the next round of preaching commenced. I spoke on “Who Will Be King?” In this message, I ask the question, “Who is king of your life – you or God?” Then, going through several verses, I sought to show that Jesus is the rightful King that all need to submit to. At the end of the message, two people took Gospels of John, including a man who shared with the team that he is a former Muslim.
The final message of the day was from Paul, who spoke on “What’s on Your Bucket List?” I didn’t get to hear this message, as two young American students from Philadelphia heckled mockingly. They didn’t mean harm; they were just a couple of young blokes looking for a laugh. I engaged them in conversation after they left Paul. Both were friendly and shared a bit about their story. After speaking for a little while and hearing the gospel, they took tracts.
By now it was grey and cold, but still, many heard the good news. Please pray that all those who heard the gospel would be saved.
