“I Need to Dedicate my Life to Jesus!” – Southampton Evangelism

We had a wonderful day in Southampton; the sun was shining, and the city was bustling with people enjoying the weather.

The open-air preaching commenced with Richard speaking on the topic of “Life: What’s the Point?” For an 81-year-old man, he still has a fire to make much of Jesus. One young lady sat down to listen to the preaching and then took a copy of the New Testament.

When it was my turn to preach, I spoke on “Warning: Six Deadly Lies.” In this message, I interacted with six commonly held beliefs. As I preached, a group began to listen. Normally, people will stop for a few minutes and then move on, but today, those who stopped stayed for the whole message. After presenting the gospel, I called on those listening to repent and believe, then asked, “When will you do that?” One man stepped forward saying, “I will!” He then loudly announced to the crowd, “I need to dedicate my life to Jesus!” It isn’t every day we see people seriously walk forward to the gospel call on the streets. I asked Jeremy to speak with the man while I continued to address those who were listening. Three others responded by asking for copies of John’s Gospel.

Jeremy spent time chatting with the man who wanted to dedicate his life to Jesus. The gospel was explained to him again, and the man made a profession of faith. Jeremy prayed for him and gave him a booklet to help new Christians.

Another man who had been listening spoke with Richard and me. He told us he was a homosexual from Portugal. The man had questions about the sinful nature of humanity and the gospel. We shared with him about how Christ can make people brand new and forgive all sins. He took a gospel booklet in Portuguese.

While I was speaking with the man from Portugal, Jeremy was preaching on “The Message of the Cross,” and other team members were busy speaking with people about the Lord. A lady who had been intrigued by the preaching spoke to Richard. She is from China and has limited English. We gave her a copy of ‘Ultimate Questions’ in Chinese and a card with a link to the gospel in her language.

By now it was nearing the end of the outreach, so Ben preached to finish us off. He spoke on “Whether Warning” (The gospel is true whether you believe it or not). It was a good end to a busy outreach.

Please pray for all those who heard the good news, and especially for the man who made a profession of faith.
