A Message of Hope for Reading

Today’s outreach was both joyous and sad. It was joyous because the gospel was proclaimed, and many heard the good news of salvation. However, it was also sad, as it may be the last time I preach in this location. Due to the uncertainty surrounding our housing situation, we may be forced to move further north in England, which means today was perhaps my last outreach in Reading. If that was the case, I rejoice that the gospel was proclaimed and that the team will continue to minister in this location going forward.

Due to the Christmas markets, we had to set up in a different location, but there was still plenty of pedestrian traffic. I commenced the preaching by speaking on “Christmas Signs.” In this message, I referenced a couple of prophecies that pointed towards the birth of Jesus. I then sought to show ‘why’ Jesus was born. A few people stopped to listen, and at the end, two took copies of John’s Gospel. It was great to see team members engaging in conversation with listeners after the message. This personal work can take the proclaimed Word and apply it personally to the individual. You can listen to the audio of my message below.

One of the encouragements I had today was seeing Jonathan open-air preach for the first time. This brother has joined us for numerous outreaches but has only focused on tracts and one-to-one witnessing. Today, he stood up and preached from Romans 6:23. A few listened, including two Muslim men who didn’t agree but were willing to chat with a team member afterwards. A local Baptist pastor was also encouraged by the message.

Bill preached next, taking John 3:16 as his text. He explored how God loves and why God gave His Son. A lady listened and was very open to talking further. Christians passing by stopped to express their thanks for the proclamation of the Word.

Two local pastors preached next, starting with Jamie from Argyle Community Church, who preached on “Why Did Jesus Come?” Then Rich from Carey Baptist Church preached on “What’s the Greatest Rescue?” Both did an excellent job clearly explaining the good news and calling on all those listening to repent and believe.

As we packed down the outreach, I was very much aware this could be my last time in this location. However, as I reflect on all the Lord has done over the past nearly two years, I rejoice. Many have heard the gospel, and many will hear of Jesus in the months to come as the team continues to share His message of hope. May the Lord save many!
