Proclaiming the Son in the Sun! – Salisbury Evangelism
After cancelling an outreach yesterday due to the bad weather, it was good to have things clear up in time for today’s evangelism in Salisbury. At first, I thought it would be a grey and overcast day, but the clouds cleared, and the sun shone brightly.
There were seven of us out sharing the good news today; the Salisbury high street is narrow, which meant we well and truly covered the area. People were taking tracts and chatting, and soon others stopped at the Free Bible table to browse the literature.
Paul was the first preacher for the day. His message focused on being prepared. In this talk, he spoke about how people prepare for many different situations, but are we prepared to meet God? While Paul was speaking, a young lady stopped at the Bible table. She spoke to one of the team members and then took a Bible. Another man paused to listen but then started to walk away. I engaged him in conversation, only to discover that he is from Turkey, so his English is limited. Through broken English we discussed why people reject God; he took a card with a link to the gospel in Turkish and then went on his way.
When Paul had finished preaching, I decided to test out a new message I’ve been developing, “Who Will Be King?” In this talk, I modify the Two Ways to Live gospel presentation to ask the question, “Is Jesus your King?”
Between the open-air sermons, the team focused on handing out tracts and chatting with people. During this time a tract was given to a Frenchman who spoke limited English. He took the tract but indicated he couldn’t understand it. Thankfully, we also had a copy of John’s Gospel in French. He was amazed that we could give him something in his own language. The international aspect of our outreach continued with a German man asking if we had anything in his language; while I didn’t have a Gospel of John, I did have a copy of Ultimate Questions in German. He left quite happy to receive a booklet.
When we started the outreach, we thought things would be slow and hard, but that certainly didn’t end up being the case. We had three more open-air messages, including one where a lady came forward to receive a copy of John’s Gospel when they were offered.
As the sun shined in Salisbury, we lifted the Son of God. He was pleased to allow His gospel to spread. Please pray for all those we encountered
