Adapt and Overcome – Winchester Outreach
What do you do when one of Europe’s best Christmas markets sets up in your outreach location? You adapt and overcome! The small city of Winchester was crowded with people looking at the markets, meaning there was very little space for us to preach. Thankfully, the local Welcome Gospel Hall provided an open space for us to hand out tracts and set up the free literature table.
Throughout a couple of hours, the team handed out around 500 tracts. We also had people stop to browse the literature and read the Scripture sign on the open-air board.
Paul Stinchcombe had a couple of gospel chats; both of those spoken with took copies of John’s Gospel. On the other hand, I didn’t get any gospel conversations; instead, I nearly constantly spoke with Christians visiting Winchester.
The Christians we met were greatly blessed by the gospel witness, so we were able to encourage them to evangelise. Part of the ministry of the evangelist is to equip and encourage the Church for the work (Ephesians 4:11-12) – it seems that was to be my primary role for the day.
It was also great to help Welcome Gospel Hall with their gospel calendar distribution. Two of our team members took calendars to all the market stalls, offering copies to the owners and workers. Many gladly received their gift.
The outreach didn’t go as I would have planned, but it went exactly as the Lord intended. We rest in the fact that His gospel will achieve His purposes. Please pray for all those we met today.
