Logos 8: Changing the way I study

When I was first training for the ministry, I remember being told by an older pastor that I needed to be careful with habits and patterns of study which I established, as those methods would stay with me for the rest of my life. Of course, I was young and knew better (what a fool!), but over the years I have seen the truth in the older gentleman’s statement.

Since 2004, I have been active in preaching and teaching the Word, and over the years I have become very set in my ways. My sermon preparation will consist of studying the Bible (which is a good thing), and then covering my desk in commentaries in piles so high that if they had fallen, I would need a rescue team to come save me.

Over the years I have flirted with using Bible Software, as I was told that these tools will save me time and make it much easier. They didn’t. However, I was then introduced to Logos 7, and immediately my study methods began to change. Now, change is slow in the ministry, but change was happening. It may have been at sloth speed, but I was slowly becoming more and more reliant upon my Bible software to assist my studies. But then things took a rapid change…

For the past month or so, I have been using Logos 8, and have found that the operating system, and ease of use has dramatically changed my study time. The Mount Everest high piles of books are disappearing from my desk, and I am finding space that was long ago lost. In seconds I can have numerous commentaries, Study Bibles, original language, and other learning tools open at a tap of a button. Instead of ages searching through books, I can now search for what I am looking for and have it on my screen in times unimaginable.

However, let me stress, the quicker work in no way lowers the level of study I am engaging in. If anything, I am now studying more works and having access to material that I would have run out of time researching before. Logos 8 has changed my study patterns and has given me more time to engage in other aspects of the ministry.

Also, I spend quite a bit of time on the road ministering in different locations, Logos 8 has been a blessing to me when I have prepared messages or need to study while traveling. The helpful app on my phone and iPad mean that I have my library with me where I go.

If you are looking for a resource that will save you time, and help you study to a deeper level, then I would recommend Logos 8 to you.
